KDP cover rules the studio follows
- The cover is a single file with the back cover, the spine and the front cover as one image. (source: KDP Help, Create a Paperback Cover)
- Cover width = bleed + back cover + spine + front cover + bleed; cover height = bleed + trim height + bleed. The bleed is 0.125 inch (3.2 mm). (source: KDP Help, Create a Paperback Cover)
- The spine width is the page count multiplied by the thickness of one page, for example 0.002252 inch for white paper and 0.0025 inch for cream paper. (source: KDP Help, Paperback Submission Guidelines)
- Spine text needs at least 79 pages, and 0.0625 inch (1.6 mm) of space on each side. (source: KDP Help, Create a Paperback Cover)
- If you do not provide a barcode, KDP adds one on the back cover; keep that area free of images and text. (source: KDP Help, Barcodes)

KDP cover creator: frequently asked questions
What does this puzzle book cover creator make?
It makes the full cover of a paperback puzzle book: back cover, spine and front cover in one file. You pick a design, change the title, texts, colors and images, then download a PDF at 300 DPI, a PNG of the full cover, a PNG of the front cover, or a JPG for a Kindle eBook cover.
Which trim sizes are available?
Eleven paperback trim sizes, from 5 x 8 to 8.5 x 11 inches: 5 x 8, 5.25 x 8, 5.5 x 8.5, 6 x 9, 6.14 x 9.21, 7 x 10, 7.5 x 9.25, 8 x 10, 8.25 x 11, 8.5 x 8.5 and 8.5 x 11 inches.
How is the cover size calculated?
With the formulas of the KDP Help: cover width = bleed + back cover + spine + front cover + bleed, and cover height = bleed + trim height + bleed, with a bleed of 0.125 inch. The spine width is the page count multiplied by the thickness of one page, which depends on the paper.
Is this Amazon's Cover Creator?
No. KDP has its own cover tool called Cover Creator. This studio is made by LogikLand, which is not affiliated with Amazon. It gives you a print-ready cover file that you upload yourself.
Can I also make mockups of my cover?
Yes. The same studio has a Mockups mode that places your cover in 3D book, open book, screen and flat scenes. See the free KDP mockup generator.
Where is my work saved?
Your current cover is saved automatically in your browser, on this computer. If you clear your browser data, it is lost.
