Price: Pro 23.99 USD/month, Premium 35.99 USD/month (less with yearly billing). Free option: 3-day free trial.

Strong points

  • Puzzles are one part of a larger toolkit: niche research, cover and interior design, journals and planners.

Limits

  • The most expensive monthly price in this comparison if you only need puzzles.
  • No permanent free plan, only a short trial.

6. KDPage

Best for: Trying puzzle generators for free before paying

Price: Starter 11.99 USD/month, Pro Studio 21 USD/month, Publisher Agency 39 USD/month. Free option: Yes: basic generators, watermarked PDF.

Strong points

  • In our test, the free word search generator worked without an account: your own word list, 3 difficulty levels and an SVG download.
  • Cryptograms and word scrambles, which few tools offer.

Limits

  • The free generator makes one puzzle at a time. A complete book needs its Book Studio.
  • Its pricing page says free PDF exports are watermarked and commercial rights start with the Starter plan.
  • All puzzle types are only available from the Pro Studio plan.

7. Univers Studio

Best for: Kids activity pages such as bingo and dot-to-dot

Price: Paid plans: Creator, Pro and Studio (see its pricing page). Free option: Yes: generators open in the browser without a login; its pricing page lists 3 tries per activity per month on the free plan.

Strong points

  • Activity types for children that puzzle book tools usually lack.
  • Many tools can be opened without a login.

Limits

  • In our test, the free word search page carried a small univers.studio mark under the puzzle.
  • Its word search page says commercial use is allowed, while its pricing page says the free plan is for personal use. Check before you sell.
  • Exports are images, so you assemble the book pages yourself or with its book builder.

How to choose

  • Start from the puzzle type. If you need cryptograms, kakuro or rare logic puzzles, only some tools have them. For Sudoku, word search, mazes and crosswords, every tool here works.
  • Check the commercial rights. Free tiers are usually for personal use or add a watermark. You need commercial rights to sell on Amazon KDP.
  • Decide how you want to pay. A one-time license costs more at the start. A monthly plan costs less to begin with and can be cancelled.
  • Think about editing. If you want to change titles, fonts or page order after generation, look for a visual editor or an editable export.
  • Try before you pay. Use the free tier, the trial or the demo, and upload a test file to the KDP previewer.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best software to create puzzle books for Amazon KDP?

It depends on what you publish. LogikLand suits publishers who want an editable book (PDF and PPTX) or a mixed puzzle book in several languages. Self Publishing Titans and Puzzle Maker Pro offer the most puzzle types with a one-time payment. Book Bolt adds niche research. KDPEasy covers number puzzles such as kakuro. KDPage and Univers Studio have free tiers for testing.

Is there a free puzzle book generator for KDP?

Several tools have a free tier, but free tiers usually exclude commercial use or add a watermark. LogikLand has a FREE plan for personal use, KDPage exports watermarked PDFs for free, Univers Studio has free in-browser generators, and KDPEasy gives 10 starter credits. To sell books, you need a plan or a license that includes commercial rights.

Is a subscription or a one-time payment better?

A one-time payment, as with Self Publishing Titans or Puzzle Maker Pro, costs more at the start but nothing later, which suits publishers who release books for years. A low monthly plan costs less to begin with and can be cancelled, which suits people who are testing the puzzle book niche.

Which tools export an editable file?

LogikLand exports an editable PPTX file as well as a PDF, and Puzzle Maker Pro lists presentation slides among its outputs. The other tools on this page describe PDF, PNG or SVG exports on their websites.

How was this comparison made?

On the same day we tried the free word search generators of KDPage and Univers Studio. We did not test any paid plan, and prices and features change, so check each website before you buy.
