How to create a word search book for KDP in 4 steps
- Book settings. Choose the language, enter the title, select the page size and decide whether to add a "How to Play" page. The language also sets the language of the words.
- Words and puzzles. Pick random words or themed categories, choose a single level or several levels, then set the number of puzzles, the grid size and the number of words per puzzle.
- Layout. Choose how the solutions are shown, set the font size of the word list, sort the words from A to Z if you like, and set the margins.
- Generate, edit and export. Click Generate Book, adjust texts and layout in the visual editor, then download a PDF or a PPTX file.

The 4 difficulty levels
The difficulty level controls the directions in which the words are hidden. Each level adds directions to the one before it.
- Easy. Words are hidden horizontally (left to right) and vertically (top to bottom).
- Medium. Words are also hidden diagonally.
- Hard. Words can also be read backwards, horizontally and vertically.
- Extreme. Words are hidden in all 8 directions, including backwards diagonals.
A multi-level book lets you start with the easiest puzzles and finish with the hardest ones, which suits readers who want to progress through the book.
Choosing themes, grid size and layout
Themed categories help you build niche books, for example an animals word search book or a food word search book. A clear theme also gives you a clear title, cover and keywords for your Amazon listing.
A bigger grid with more words and a higher level makes a harder puzzle. Use smaller grids and fewer words for beginners, and larger grids with the Hard or Extreme level for experienced solvers. For children or large print editions, use the dedicated Kids Word Search and Large Print Word Search wizards in your dashboard.
