How to Create a Word Search Book for Amazon KDP

Generate word search puzzles from random words or themed categories, choose the difficulty and the solution style, then export your KDP word search book as a PDF or PPTX file.

Before you start

The word search generator is available on every LogikLand plan, including the FREE plan. Commercial rights, which you need to sell your books on Amazon KDP, come with the PRO and EXPERT plans. Words come from built-in word lists in English, French, Spanish, German and Italian.

Create your word search book step by step

  1. 1

    Book settings

Choose the language, enter your book title, select the page size (8.5 x 11 inches or 6 x 9 inches) and decide whether to include a “How to Play” page. The language you choose also sets the language of the words.

  2. 2

    Words and puzzles

Pick the word source: random words, or one or several themed categories such as animals, food, sports or science. Choose Single level or Multi-level, then set the number of puzzles, the difficulty, the grid size (up to 25 rows and columns) and the number of words per puzzle (up to 20).

  3. 3

    Layout

Choose how the solutions are shown (circle the words, highlight the cells, or show the words only), set the font size of the word list, sort the words from A to Z, switch to lower case letters if you like, and set the margins.

  4. 4

    Generate, edit and export

Click Generate Book. Your project opens in the visual editor, where you can adjust texts and layout, then download the book as a PDF or an editable PPTX file.

Difficulty levels

The difficulty level controls the directions in which words are hidden. The “How to Play” page of your book explains them to your readers.

E

Easy: words are hidden horizontally (left to right) and vertically (top to bottom).

M

Medium: words are also hidden diagonally.

H

Hard: words can also be read backwards, horizontally and vertically.

X

Extreme: words are hidden in all 8 directions, including backwards diagonals.

Tips for a better word search book

  • Use themed categories to build niche books, for example an animals word search book or a food word search book.
  • A bigger grid with more words and a higher difficulty level makes a harder puzzle. Use smaller grids and fewer words for beginners.
  • Sort the word list from A to Z so that solvers can check the words faster.
  • For children or large print editions, use the dedicated Kids Word Search and Large Print Word Search wizards from your dashboard.
  • Amazon KDP margin requirements depend on your trim size and page count. Check the official KDP guidelines and preview your file in the KDP previewer before publishing.
