How to Create a Mixed Puzzle Book for Amazon KDP
Use the Mixed Wizard to put Sudoku, crosswords, word searches and mazes in one activity book, then export it as a PDF or PPTX file.
Before you start
The Mixed Wizard is part of the EXPERT plan, which also includes commercial rights for Amazon KDP. A mixed puzzle book, also called an activity book or variety book, combines several puzzle types in a single manuscript. A Kids Mixed wizard, with Sudoku, word search and mazes by age group, is also available in the Kids tab of your dashboard.
Create your mixed puzzle book step by step
- 1
Book
Choose the language of your book, enter its title and select the page size (8.5 x 11 inches or 6 x 9 inches).
- 2
Selection
Select the puzzle types to include: Sudoku, crossword, word search and maze. You can combine all four or only some of them.
- 3
Configuration
For each puzzle type, choose Single level or Multi-level, then set the number of puzzles, the difficulty and the grid size. For Sudoku you also choose how many puzzles go on each page. For word search you choose random words or themed categories. For mazes you choose walls or blocks.
- 4
Organization
Choose how puzzle types are arranged: Shuffled mixes them throughout the book, while Ordered keeps each type in its own section, in the order you set by dragging and dropping. For each puzzle type you also choose how levels appear: in the puzzle titles, as separator pages, or not at all.
- 5
Layout and generation
Set the margins, choose which “How to Play” pages to include, and check the estimated page count against the page limit of your plan. Then click Generate Book: the solutions are added at the end, and your project opens in the visual editor.
Shuffled or ordered: which to choose?
Shuffled
Puzzle types alternate throughout the book, which keeps the solver engaged. Sudoku puzzles are grouped by the number you chose per page, so each Sudoku page stays full.
Ordered
Each puzzle type has its own section, in the order you set by dragging and dropping. This works well for books organized in chapters, and with separator pages between levels.
Tips for a better mixed puzzle book
- Use themed word search categories that match the theme of your book.
- Use Multi-level mode to offer easy and hard puzzles in the same book and reach more solvers.
- Watch the page counter: it compares the estimated length of your book with the page limit of your plan.
- Include a “How to Play” page for each puzzle type if your book is aimed at beginners or children.
- Amazon KDP margin requirements depend on your trim size and page count. Check the official KDP guidelines and preview your file in the KDP previewer before publishing.
