What changes with the age
Read the clock and draw the hands
Ages 5 to 11
O’clock only at ages 5-6, o’clock and half past at 6-7, quarter hours at 7-8, 5-minute steps at 8-9, then any minute from ages 9-10. Up to ages 7-8 the minutes are printed around the clock face; at ages 10-11 the reading page adds a seconds hand.
Time in words
Ages 7 to 11
Quarter hours at ages 7-8, such as “quarter past three”, then 5-minute steps, such as “ten to six”. In the other languages the words follow that language.
Elapsed time
Ages 8 to 11
Four clocks with a time to add. Whole and half hours at ages 8-9, 5-minute steps at 9-10, any number of minutes at 10-11.
Match the clocks
Ages 7 to 11
Five clocks to link to five digital times. From ages 9-10 each clock says morning or afternoon: AM and PM in English, the 24-hour clock in the other languages.
Calendar
Ages 5 to 10
Missing days of the week and months of the year at ages 5-7. From ages 7-8, a real month with questions, for example the day of a date, how many Sundays there are, the date of the first Wednesday, or the date one week later.
