How to Create a Hitori Book for Amazon KDP

In Hitori, the solver shades squares so that no number repeats in a row or column. Generate a Hitori book with 4 levels, from 5 x 5 to 9 x 9, with the shaded solutions at the end.

Before you start

The Hitori wizard is available on every LogikLand plan, including the FREE plan, from the dashboard. Commercial rights, which you need to sell your books on Amazon KDP, come with the PRO and EXPERT plans.

From the Hard level, the grids need the “connected” rule: all unshaded squares must form a single group.

How to play Hitori

  • Shade some squares so that no number appears more than once among the unshaded squares of any row or column.
  • Shaded squares never touch each other by a side (touching by a corner is allowed).
  • All unshaded squares must stay connected to each other in a single group. Every grid has a single solution; in the solutions, shaded squares are grey.

These rules are printed at the start of your book when you add the “How to play” page.

Create your Hitori book step by step

  1. 1

    Book settings

Choose the language of your book (English, French, Spanish, German or Italian), enter its title, select the page size (8.5 x 11 inches or 6 x 9 inches), and choose the “How to play” pages: a detailed guide with examples, a short text page, or none.

  2. 2

    Puzzles

Choose One level for a single difficulty, or Several levels to set a number of grids for each level in the same book.

  3. 3

    Layout

Choose the title of each puzzle (name, level and number, or the number only). Grids: 1, 2 or 4 per page (up to 2 in 6 x 9 inches). Solutions: 1, 2, 4 or 6 per page (1, 2 or 4 in the Large Print edition). Then set the top, bottom, left and right margins, from 0.25 to 2 inches. A page counter shows the estimated length of your book compared with the page limit of your plan.

  4. 4

    Generate, edit and export

Click Generate Book. Your project opens in the visual editor, where you can change texts, fonts and positions, save your work, and download the book as a PDF or an editable PPTX file.

Tips for a Hitori puzzle book

  • In the solutions, shaded squares are grey: they stay readable in black and white printing.
  • Begin the book with 5 x 5 and 6 x 6 grids, where the two first rules are enough.
  • Keep the detailed guide: the “connected” rule is the one new solvers forget most often.

Margins and Amazon KDP requirements

Amazon KDP margin requirements depend on your trim size and your page count: the inside margin must be larger for thicker books. Check the official KDP margin guidelines, preview your file in the KDP previewer, and increase the margins in the Layout step if needed.
