How to Create a Kids Crossword Book for Amazon KDP

The Kids Crossword wizard is available on every LogikLand plan, including the FREE plan, from the dashboard. Commercial rights, which you need to sell your books on Amazon KDP, come with the PRO and EXPERT plans.

Ages 6-8 get 5 to 6 short words per crossword; ages 8-12 get 8 to 10 words.

• Read each clue and think of the word it describes.
• Write one letter in each square. Across words go from left to right, Down words go from top to bottom. The number in the corner shows where each word starts.
• When two words cross, they share a letter. The answers are at the end of the book.

These rules are printed at the start of your book when you add the “How to play” page.

   Book settings

   Choose the language of your book (English, French, Spanish, German or Italian), enter its title, select the page size (8.5 x 11 inches or 6 x 9 inches), and choose the “How to play” pages: a detailed guide with examples, a short text page, or none.

   Puzzles

   Choose one age group or both (Ages 6-8, Ages 8-12) and the number of crosswords. Then pick a theme: all themes mixed, or one of 17 themes such as animals, food, nature, school, toys and games, sports or jobs.

   Layout

   Choose the title of each puzzle (name, level and number, or the number only). Crosswords: 1 or 2 per page (1 in 6 x 9 inches or for ages 8-12). Solutions: 1, 2, 4 or 6 per page (1, 2 or 4 in the Large Print edition). Then set the top, bottom, left and right margins, from 0.25 to 2 inches. A page counter shows the estimated length of your book compared with the page limit of your plan.

   Generate, edit and export

   Click Generate Book. Your project opens in the visual editor, where you can change texts, fonts and positions, save your work, and download the book as a PDF or an editable PPTX file.

• A single theme makes a book easy to name and to present, for example “Animal Crosswords for Kids”.
• Keep the detailed “How to play” guide: it shows young solvers how Across and Down words work.
• For adult crosswords with harder clues, use the Crossword wizard instead.

Amazon KDP margin requirements depend on your trim size and your page count: the inside margin must be larger for thicker books. Check the official KDP margin guidelines, preview your file in the KDP previewer, and increase the margins in the Layout step if needed.
