How to Create a Nonogram Book for Amazon KDP

A nonogram reveals a hidden picture when the right squares are shaded. Generate a nonogram book with 4 levels, from 10 x 10 to 25 x 25 grids, with the finished pictures in the solutions.

Before you start

The Nonogram wizard is available on every LogikLand plan, including the FREE plan, from the dashboard. Commercial rights, which you need to sell your books on Amazon KDP, come with the PRO and EXPERT plans.

Every grid can be solved line by line, without guessing.

How to play Nonograms

  • Shade squares to reveal a hidden picture.
  • The numbers to the left of each row and above each column give, in order, the length of the blocks of shaded squares in that line. For example, "3 1" means a block of 3 shaded squares, then, further along, a block of 1. There is at least one empty square between two blocks. A 0 means the line stays empty.
  • Every grid has a single solution, which can be found line by line without guessing.

These rules are printed at the start of your book when you add the “How to play” page.

Create your Nonogram book step by step

  1. 1

    Book settings

Choose the language of your book (English, French, Spanish, German or Italian), enter its title, select the page size (8.5 x 11 inches or 6 x 9 inches), and choose the “How to play” pages: a detailed guide with examples, a short text page, or none.

  2. 2

    Puzzles

Choose One level for a single difficulty, or Several levels to set a number of grids for each level in the same book. Then choose the pictures: a mix of patterns and shapes, symmetric patterns, or shapes (heart, cat, house, tree, car and more).

  3. 3

    Layout

Choose the title of each puzzle (name, level and number, or the number only). Grids: 1 or 2 per page (1 for the Hard and Expert levels). Solutions: 1, 2, 4 or 6 per page (1, 2 or 4 in the Large Print edition). Then set the top, bottom, left and right margins, from 0.25 to 2 inches. A page counter shows the estimated length of your book compared with the page limit of your plan.

  4. 4

    Generate, edit and export

Click Generate Book. Your project opens in the visual editor, where you can change texts, fonts and positions, save your work, and download the book as a PDF or an editable PPTX file.

Tips for a Nonogram puzzle book

  • Use 8.5 x 11 inches for 20 x 20 and 25 x 25 grids: there are many clues to print around the grid.
  • Symmetric patterns give endless variety; shapes are easier to recognize for children.
  • Start with 10 x 10 grids: they can be finished in one sitting.

Margins and Amazon KDP requirements

Amazon KDP margin requirements depend on your trim size and your page count: the inside margin must be larger for thicker books. Check the official KDP margin guidelines, preview your file in the KDP previewer, and increase the margins in the Layout step if needed.

Frequently asked questions

How do I read the numbers of a nonogram?

The numbers next to each row and above each column give, in order, the length of the blocks of shaded squares in that line, with at least one empty square between two blocks. A 0 means the line stays empty.

A mix of patterns and shapes, symmetric patterns only, or shapes only (heart, cat, house, tree, car and more).
