How to Create a Killer Sudoku Book for Amazon KDP

Killer Sudoku mixes Sudoku and arithmetic: no digit is given at the start, only cages with their sums. Generate a Killer Sudoku book with 4 levels and the solutions at the end.

Before you start

The Killer Sudoku wizard is available on every LogikLand plan, including the FREE plan, from the dashboard. Commercial rights, which you need to sell your books on Amazon KDP, come with the PRO and EXPERT plans.

The level sets the size of the cages: the larger the cages, the more combinations of digits are possible and the harder the grid.

How to play Killer Sudoku

  • Fill the grid so that every row, every column and every 3 x 3 box contains the digits 1 to 9 exactly once. No digit is given at the start.
  • The grid is divided into cages, outlined with dotted lines. The small number in a cage is the sum of its digits, and a digit cannot appear twice in the same cage.
  • Tip: a row, a column or a box always adds up to 45. Every grid has a single solution.

These rules are printed at the start of your book when you add the “How to play” page.

Create your Killer Sudoku book step by step

  1. 1

    Book settings

Choose the language of your book (English, French, Spanish, German or Italian), enter its title, select the page size (8.5 x 11 inches or 6 x 9 inches), and choose the “How to play” pages: a detailed guide with examples, a short text page, or none.

  2. 2

    Puzzles

Choose One level for a single difficulty, or Several levels to set a number of grids for each level in the same book.

  3. 3

    Layout

Choose the title of each puzzle (name, level and number, or the number only). Grids: 1 or 2 per page (2 at most, so that the small cage sums stay readable). Solutions: 1, 2, 4 or 6 per page (1, 2 or 4 in the Large Print edition). Then set the top, bottom, left and right margins, from 0.25 to 2 inches. A page counter shows the estimated length of your book compared with the page limit of your plan.

  4. 4

    Generate, edit and export

Click Generate Book. Your project opens in the visual editor, where you can change texts, fonts and positions, save your work, and download the book as a PDF or an editable PPTX file.

Tips for a Killer Sudoku puzzle book

  • Choose 1 grid per page in 6 x 9 inches: the cage sums are small numbers written in the corner of each cage.
  • The rules page reminds solvers that a row, a column or a box always adds up to 45: keep it, it is the key technique.
  • Start with Easy grids (cages of up to 3 squares) before moving to cages of 5 or 6 squares.
  • A Large Print Killer Sudoku wizard is in the Seniors tab of the dashboard: one large grid per page by default, big print and large print instructions.

Margins and Amazon KDP requirements

Amazon KDP margin requirements depend on your trim size and your page count: the inside margin must be larger for thicker books. Check the official KDP margin guidelines, preview your file in the KDP previewer, and increase the margins in the Layout step if needed.

Frequently asked questions

How does Killer Sudoku work?

Every row, column and 3 x 3 box contains the digits 1 to 9 once. The grid is divided into dotted cages; the small number in a cage is the sum of its digits, and a digit cannot repeat inside a cage.

What changes between the levels?

Cages of up to 3 squares at Easy, 4 at Medium, 5 at Hard, and up to 6 squares with fewer cages at Expert.

Why only 2 grids per page?

With 4 grids per page, the cage sums would be printed too small to read comfortably.
