How to Create a Codeword Book for Amazon KDP
In a Codeword grid, each number hides one letter. Readers start from a few given letters and crack the whole code. Generate a book with 3 levels and the solutions at the end.
Before you start
The Codeword wizard is available on every LogikLand plan, including the FREE plan, from the dashboard. Commercial rights, which you need to sell your books on Amazon KDP, come with the PRO and EXPERT plans.
Each page also has a table of numbers and the alphabet to cross off. A solver tries every word of our list: only grids with one possible result are kept.
How to play Codeword
- Each number stands for one letter, always the same one, and two numbers never share a letter.
- A few letters are given. Write them everywhere their number appears, then use the words that begin to appear to find the next letters.
- The table under the grid keeps track of the letters found, and you can cross them off in the alphabet. All words are checked against our word list: it leaves one solution.
These rules are printed at the start of your book when you add the “How to play” page.

Tips for a Codeword puzzle book
- Start with Easy grids: 11 x 11 with about 6 letters given.
- Prefer the 8.5 x 11 inch format for Hard grids: the numbers in the squares stay easier to read.
- Add the "How to play" page: the code can surprise a first-time reader.
Margins and Amazon KDP requirements
Amazon KDP margin requirements depend on your trim size and your page count: the inside margin must be larger for thicker books. Check the official KDP margin guidelines, preview your file in the KDP previewer, and increase the margins in the Layout step if needed.
Frequently asked questions
How many letters are given?
About 6 in Easy, 4 in Medium and 3 in Hard. A grid can have more when they are needed to leave one solution.
Are all 26 letters used?
Not always: the table only lists the numbers used in that grid.
