How to Create a Dots and Boxes Game Book for Amazon KDP
Dots and Boxes is a game for 2 players: in turn, each draws a line between two dots, and whoever closes a box writes an initial in it and plays again.
Before you start
The Dots and Boxes wizard is available on every LogikLand plan, including the FREE plan, from the dashboard. Commercial rights, which you need to sell your books on Amazon KDP, come with the PRO and EXPERT plans.
There are 3 sizes: 6 x 8, 9 x 12 or 12 x 16 boxes. On the two larger sizes, a few lines are already drawn so that each sheet starts differently. It is a game to play, so there are no solutions.
How to play
- A game for 2 players. In turn, draw a line between two neighboring dots.
- If your line closes a box, write your initial in it and play again.
- When all the boxes are closed, the player with the most boxes wins. Lines already drawn are part of the game.
These rules are printed at the start of your book when you add the “How to play” page.
Create your Dots and Boxes book step by step
- 1
Book settings
Choose the language of your book (English, French, Spanish, German or Italian), enter its title, select the page size (8.5 x 11 inches or 6 x 9 inches), and decide whether to add a short “How to solve” page.
- 2
Puzzles
Choose One level for a single difficulty, or Several levels to set a number of grids for each level in the same book.
- 3
Layout
Choose the title of each puzzle (name, level and number, or the number only). One game sheet per page, with a score area for each player. You can leave the back of each sheet blank; the book then has twice as many pages. Then set the top, bottom, left and right margins, from 0.25 to 2 inches. A page counter shows the estimated length of your book compared with the page limit of your plan.
- 4
Generate, edit and export
Click Generate Book. Your project opens in the visual editor, where you can change texts, fonts and positions, save your work, and download the book as a PDF or an editable PPTX file.

Margins and Amazon KDP requirements
Amazon KDP margin requirements depend on your trim size and your page count: the inside margin must be larger for thicker books. Check the official KDP margin guidelines, preview your file in the KDP previewer, and increase the margins in the Layout step if needed.
Frequently asked questions
Why are some lines already drawn?
So that the sheets are not all identical. No box starts with more than 2 sides.
