How to Create a Missing Vowels Book for Amazon KDP
The vowels have been taken out of each word: readers find the word from its consonants and write it on the line.
Before you start
The Missing Vowels wizard is available on every LogikLand plan, including the FREE plan, from the dashboard. Commercial rights, which you need to sell your books on Amazon KDP, come with the PRO and EXPERT plans.
On the Easy and Medium levels, a dash shows each vowel; on the Hard level, nothing shows where the vowels were. A program checks each line: it matches only one word in our list.
How to play
- The vowels A, E, I, O and U have been taken out of each word. Find the word and write it on the line.
- On the Easy and Medium levels, a dash shows the place of each vowel. On the Hard level, nothing shows where the vowels were.
- The letters in each line match only one word in our list.
These rules are printed at the start of your book when you add the “How to play” page.
Create your Missing Vowels book step by step
- 1
Book settings
Choose the language of your book (English, French, Spanish, German or Italian), enter its title, select the page size (8.5 x 11 inches or 6 x 9 inches), and decide whether to add a short “How to solve” page.
- 2
Puzzles
Choose One level for a single difficulty, or Several levels to set a number of grids for each level in the same book.
- 3
Layout
Choose the title of each puzzle (name, level and number, or the number only). One list per page: 14, 16 or 18 words depending on the level. Solutions: 1, 2, 4 or 6 per page (1, 2 or 4 in the Large Print edition). Then set the top, bottom, left and right margins, from 0.25 to 2 inches. A page counter shows the estimated length of your book compared with the page limit of your plan.
- 4

Tips for a Missing Vowels puzzle book
- Start the book with the Easy level: the dashes help a lot.
- Add the "How to play" page: it explains which letters are removed.
Margins and Amazon KDP requirements
Amazon KDP margin requirements depend on your trim size and your page count: the inside margin must be larger for thicker books. Check the official KDP margin guidelines, preview your file in the KDP previewer, and increase the margins in the Layout step if needed.
Frequently asked questions
Is Y a vowel in this game?
No. Only A, E, I, O and U are removed, so Y stays in the word.
